Lucas has embraced his true-self and is proud to be living as a transgender-man.
Prior to 2021 he lived as Mr. Liz and performed as a mezzo-soprano.
​He has physically transitioned with testosterone and now continues his career as a baritone .
Lucas made his New York City Opera debut in June 2019 as Sarah in the World Premiere of Iain Bell and Mark Campbell’s new opera, STONEWALL, commemorating the 50th Anniversary of the riots at the Stonewall Inn. Also during World Pride 50, he performed at Bryant Park's Pride Concert with City Opera and sang with ChamberQUEER at the Brooklyn Arts Exchange. With dell'Arte Opera Ensemble, Lucas created another new role as Queen Anne in the World Premiere of Whitney George and Bea Goodwin’s PRINCESS MALEINE in August.
 
Also in the 2019 season Liz performed Hannah-after in Laura Kaminsky, Kimberly Reed & Mark Campbell’s AS ONE with Alamo City Opera. He reprises the role this fall in New York City as part of Transgender Awareness Month with colleague Nathaniel Sullivan. Liz also debuted with St. Petersburg Opera Company as The Nursing Sister in SUOR ANGELICA in May, and covered La Ciesca in GIANNI SCHICCHI.
 
In his debut as a writer & producer, Lucas collaborated with librettist and stage director Bea Goodwin. Mr. Liz’s One [wo] Man Show: [Living in the In-Between] was workshopped last November at Alchemical Studios and premiered off-off-Broadway at The Tank Theater in February. He workshopped the sequel, New Beginnings, with The New Work Series at TADA Theater in March and at Dixon Place in April.

Charlie Parkhurst in GOOD COUNTRY

This production was postponed due to COVID.
Liz performs the role of Charley Parkhurst in a revised reading of Keith Allegretti and Cecelia Raker's new chamber opera GOOD COUNTRY. The opera is based on the story of Charley Parkhurst, a transgender stagecoach driver during the California Gold Rush. After surviving a holdup, Charley and his passengers tumble into a saloon for a night of revelry and revelations. Good Country  had its first workshop production as part of the Cohen New Works Festival, April 15 - 19, 2019 and was recently featured in the NYTimes
